Party Season Makeup – Tips & Tricks



The invites will soon be rolling in thick and fast to this year’s festive parties; family gatherings, girls nights out, office Christmas party, so be beauty prepared to say yes to them all!

A Christmas party with work colleagues often requires a smooth move from the office straight to the pub, which leaves the dilemma of daywear to nightwear and how to alter your makeup from office-friendly natural to dark and glam. Who wants to take their entire make up bag to work? Not us! The best way to improve your makeup’s staying power is to start with a good moisturiser and primer. This will ensure your foundation stays where you want it, and will help it last longer. Touch up with face powder at your desk to keep any shine at bay. Add a darker lip colour, either a beautiful deep red, or even a berry puple, to instantly take your look from day to night. If you like your eyes to make a statement, add some extra layers of mascara and use a coloured eyeliner for a pop of colour. By doing this, you only need to take three to four make up products in your bag! Don’t forget to add an evening fragrance to spritz yourself into the party mood.


A fun girls night out involves lots of talking, maybe some eating and of course, plenty of cocktails. This means that your lips are doing a lot over the few hours (or all night!) that you’re out enjoying yourself. Reapplying your lipstick every half an hour isn’t an ideal situation, so why not prepare your lips for longer lasting lip colour? To do this, it’s a good idea to include your lips when applying your foundation – this provides the perfect base for your lipstick or gloss to adhere to, thus making it last longer. Another trick, is to use a lip liner in a similar colour to your lipstick, but fill in the entire lip rather than just the lip line. Slick on your lipstick and be amazed at its lasting power!

All of the partying and heavy make up over the festive season can leave your skin feeling, and looking, a little worse for wear. Clogged pores, dark under eye circles from late nights and cracked lips are just some of the effects you could experience. Keep on top of your skin care by treating your face with a face mask once a week to detox it, use facial wipes or cleanser to remove your makeup before bed every night (no excuses ladies!) and slather on the moisturiser to revive and rehydrate thirsty skin.
