4 DIY Beauty Trends to Try in 2017

As with all trends, there are cycles of popularity and revivals of styles gone by. However, some beauty trends for 2017 are surprisingly fresh, with modern takes on old favourites, and at Beauty Base we can’t wait to show you what this year has in store.

80’s nostalgia

We’re all aware of the impact that the recent revival of the 90’s trends have had in the fashion and beauty world (hello chokers and lipgloss), and this year will see a subtle nod to the 80’s. If you’ve always been adverse to the blue eyeshadow look, then be prepared for a change of heart. A sleek sweep of royal blue or navy eyeliner on the top lid is where it’s at for the coming year; for an extra bonus, a blue shade works wonders for pretty much all eye colours, making them pop for a stand out look. Metallic eyeshadow shades are also sticking around, with matte shadows taking a back seat. A wash of light orange or dark rust from the Technic Bronzing Baked Eyeshadow palette followed by a cat eye liner flick is a winner look for all of your 2017 nights out.

Another 80’s inspiration we’ll see everywhere in make up this year is a reignited love for blusher. Get out of that rigid contouring habit and discover a softer look. Opt for a skin tone flattering coral or baby pink blush on the apple of the cheeks, and amp it up with a touch of bronzer or highlighter.

Sensual smokey eye

A beauty look that will around until the end of time is the smokey eye. This is a failsafe makeup look for evenings which is showing no sign of leaving the beauty world’s consciousness. This year will see a slightly different take on the popular eye makeup look as it’s now a more lived-in finish you’re aiming for. Think pretty smudges of eyeliner underneath the eyes and lashings of mascara. We’re loving the Milani Lash Trifecta mascara for it’s length enhancing powers, and opt for a dark brown eyeliner for a softer finish. Keep brows in check with the Milani Easybrow Tinted Fiber Gel which creates fuller brows by adhering fibres to your own brow hairs. Your brows, but better!

Get lippy

Say goodbye to your favourite matte liquid lipsticks for now because the glossy lip is back in style. A staple lip product in every girl’s handbag should be a clear gloss which gives a high shine to bare lips or over a nude-pink lipstick. If you really can’t say au revoir to your faithful lippy, the LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint might just be your beauty saviour for 2017. This highly pigmented lip product provides intense colour with a sheen-like finish of a gloss. LA Girl lip paints are available in plenty of colours, but opt for a bold purple or pink to keep on top of the upcoming beauty trends.

All about the hair

New year, new hair? Side partings were really big at the catwalk shows last autumn, with models such as Kendall Jenner sporting very daring low partings, and it’s such an easy way to update your current look. If you already rock a side parting, why not simply swap sides? Keep things on-trend and sleek by smoothing the hair down with a hair oil or serum, such as the Ayumi Organic Coconut Enriched Hair Oil. Other hair looks for 2017 include edgier styles and cuts, with the bob seeing a resurgence in popularity along with a chic blunt fringe.
