How To Do Halloween Make Up With Celeb Make Up Artist Em-J
Halloween is slowly creeping upon us and it’s time to get thinking about what character you’re going to be creating as your Halloween alter-ego this year! Luckily our beauty ambassador and celebrity makeup artist Em-J has put together a fabulous zombie bride makeup look for us to copy for Halloween 2018. Take a look at her makeup application video and find out how you can replicate her zombie makeup look with products from Beauty Base.
So, how do you do zombie makeup for Halloween?
Whether you’re heading out to the town with the rest of your ghoulish gang or turning up to a haunted house party for Halloween this year, you’ll definitely want your makeup to stick around all night. Em-J begins her Halloween makeup by applying a generous amount of Milani Prime Shield face primer which will prep the skin by minimising pores and creating a smooth matte base. She then uses a large brush to buff a white shade of LA Girl Pro Coverage Foundation onto the skin – this can be done to lighten the skin shade for that deathly appearance!
All zombie brides want to look good on their wedding day, and to do that requires some expert contouring that will further emphasise the hollows of their cheeks. For this next step, Em-J uses LA Girl Just Blushing Powder and takes a blush brush, squeezing it sideways to allow for precise application underneath the cheekbones. Opt for an ashy tone blusher or contouring product that will work well with your lighter foundation – no bronzer for this zombie!
After creating a good base with your face makeup, it’s time to define your brows – because even the ‘undead’ deserve great eyebrows! Em-J reaches for her LA Girl Inspiring Brow Kit, and for similar results, we love the Milani Tech Define Brow & Eyeliner which is a dual-ended pen that allows for expert precision and easy application.
The classic zombie has dark eyes, so make sure to apply black and grey eyeshadow to your lids and underneath the eyes, and smudge eyeliner close to the lashes. A great way to start like Em-J is to take an eyeliner pencil and draw a line in your eyelid crease for definition and to use as a guide for where your eyeshadow should be going up to. Em-J used the darker shades in the W7 Eye Eco Palette and LA Girl Glide Gel Eyeliner to do her eyes. Use an eyeshadow brush to blend, blend, blend, and don’t worry if it’s not perfect, because that is the beauty of Halloween makeup – anything goes!
Now it’s time to move onto the fun part of this zombie makeup look. Create bloody bruises by taking Milani Lip Creme in the shade Fabulous for a wonderful deep red colour that can be smudged on top of the cheekbones, around the nose and on the forehead to give the appearance of bruised skin. Taking the LA Girl Fineliner eyeliner in Plum, Em-J set to work drawing thin veins on her face and neck for that extra horror movie touch.
Use a liquid latex along the base of the neck and allow to dry before painting with foundation and fake blood to create the appearance of a deep gash with realistic texture. The Milani Lip Creme and Milani Matte Lipstick in Confident can be used for further bruising and touches of ‘blood’ on the face and neck to pull the makeup look together. Pat the lipstick around the corner of the mouth and around the neck using your fingers for a more realistic finish. We recommend using a high quality setting spray, such as the Milani Make It Dewy Setting Spray, to keep your hard work in place all night.
Finally, add the finishing touches to your zombie bride Halloween outfit with a flower crown, veil and even a small bouquet of flowers teamed with a white dress for the true bridal effect. The contrast between the feminine accessories and the stark bruises and cuts ensure a striking look that is just perfect for Halloween!
